When browsing the internet, your computer keeps a history of all websites that you have visited. If you do not delete this history, there is a chance that people will be able to see what websites you have visited.
In order to minimise this risk of someone viewing your history, you can delete your temporary internet files, history and cookies. To help you do this, we have listed instructions below for what you need to do to delete these files:

Mozilla Firefox 3
Internet Explorer 8
Go to
Tools
and then select
Internet Options
and a popup window will then appear
In this window, select the
General
tab at the top if it is not already selected.
In the middle of the window there is a section called
Browsing History
. In this section there is a button labeled
Delete…
, select this.
Another window will then appear give you the option to delete your temporary internet files and other data that your browser stores. Tick the boxes you would like to delete and press the Delete button.
This will then delete all of your temporary internet files.
Internet Explorer 7
Go to
Tools
and then select
Internet Options
and a popup window will then appear.
In this window, select the
General
tab at the top if it is not already selected.
In the middle of the window there is a section called
Browsing History
. In this section there is a button labeled
Delete…
, select this.
Another window will then appear give you the option to delete your temporary internet files and other data that your browser stores. Delete the sections you wish by pressing the relevant button or press
Delete All…
to delete all of the files.
This will then delete all of your temporary internet files.
Internet Explorer 6
Go to
Tools
and then select
Internet Options
and a popup window will then appear
In this window, select the
General
tab at the top if it is not already selected.
In the middle of the window there is a section called
Temporary Internet Files
. In this section there is a button labeled
Delete Cookies…
and
Delete Files…
, selecting these buttons will delete your temporary internet files and cookies.
Below the Temporary Internet Files section, there is a section called
History
. If you press the
Clear History
button, this will clear the history of sites you have visited.
Mozilla Firefox 3
Go to
Tools
and then select
Clear Recent History…
and a popup window will then appear.
On the
Time range to clear
, select
Everything
.
Then select the details button and make sure that the relevant tick boxes are checked (Browsing and Download History, Form & Search History, Cookies, Cache, Active Logins).
Then press the
Clear Now
button to clear your history.
