About Us

Mussurut ZiaPractical Solutions was founded in 2005 by Mussurut Zia, and registered as a community organisation in 2007. Mussurut has over 17 years experience of working with victims of domestic abuse, and specialises in challenging the practices of forced marriage and honour based violence.
She is also an expert witness and is regularly called upon by solicitors, the police and the Home Office to provide reports for cases of forced marriage and honour based violence.
Mussurut has extensive experience of multi-agency work in this specialist area and works with police forces, health services, colleges, universities, mental health workers and many voluntary, community and faith organisations to raise awareness of these issues, as well as offering practical ways of dealing with incidents. She has written many papers and reports on forced marriage and honour violence, one of which was used in the House of Lords to support the proposal for the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007.

Mussurut combines family life with her passion to fight injustice, particularly injustice towards women, and it is this passion that fuels her work against forced marriage and honour based violence.

Practical Solutions is made up of a team of 7 volunteers, from different backgrounds, nationalities and faiths. The team members all give their time freely and willingly to further the work of Practical Solutions.
